WELCOME
On behalf of our elected members and staff I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Rural City of Murray Bridge. We are delighted that you have chosen to make your new home here.
Our city was established in 1874 as a vital link in South Australia’s fledgling trade routes. Its proximity to the river and convenient distance from Adelaide and the eastern states, has seen Murray Bridge transform into the Murraylands’ largest regional, commercial hub.
A range of cafés, restaurants, hotels and a cinema compliment the five supermarkets and a variety of specialty shops located in the CBD. The City has excellent health services and facilities and features one of the largest regional hospitals in the state. There are three popular senior schools, six junior schools and numerous preschools and nurseries.
Several cultural and entertainment spaces provide access to exhibitions and performances including the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery and Murray Bridge Performing Arts and Function Centre. There are over 20 sporting or social clubs scattered throughout Murray Bridge. These include cricket clubs, tennis associations, a shooting range, rowing club, a basketball stadium, netball clubs, a golf club (currently undergoing expansion), a new greyhound racing track, new horse racing track and the popular Murray Bridge Speedway.
We have monthly Council meetings at the Local Government Centre, generally on the first Monday of the month – you are always welcome to attend!
You may like to consider volunteering in one of many local programs. These include native revegetation of locally significant sites and other valuable positions within our Library, Art Gallery, local attractions and the Visitor Information Centre.
As you settle into your new home, I encourage you to familiarise yourself with our City. The information below will help you get started.
Welcome and please contact us if we can be of any further assistance.
