Community Nursery
The Murray Bridge Community Nursery is an environmental initiative by The Rural City of Murray Bridge to grow the abundance of native plants that attract and provide habitat for birds, bees and insects, to support the continued health of our local environment and biodiversity.
Environmental volunteers collect seeds, plant, mulch, fertilise, water and nurture native plants , many of which are endemic to the local area, for use in our parks and gardens, greening and cooling our streetscapes.
When stocks allow, we also supply native plants to residents to help green local gardens.
Growing drought tolerant species that are later transferred out into community gardens and parklands helps protect the health of the Murray River through a reduced reliance on water.
Native Plant Giveaway & Community Nursery Market Day

Community Nursery at the Brinkley ReUse Centre, Murray Bridge
This year, there’ll be 3,000 native plants available - from groundcovers to eucalyptus trees and everything in between. Plus, 200 special Butterfly Attracting Plant Packs will also be up for grabs, designed to provide food and host plants for native butterflies to lay their eggs and for caterpillars to feed on.
There’ll even be a limited supply of Indigenous Bush Foods endemic to the Murraylands, including:
- Muntries (Kunzea pomifera) – a small berry with a dry apple and peach flavour
- Sweet Apple-berry (Billardiera cymosa) – regarded as one of the tastiest bush foods, with an aniseed flavour
Here’s how many plants you can collect (until stocks run out):
- Properties up to 500m² = 5 plants
- Properties over 500m² = 10 plants

Free native plants are available to residents of the Rural City of Murray Bridge only. Plants available while stocks last. Terms and conditions apply.
