Welcome to the official webpage of the Rural City of Murray Bridge Sports Awards!

We are thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s Rural City of Murray Bridge Sports Awards, where we recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our local sporting heroes.

Council is excited to announce this year's Sports Awards winners:


Young Sportsperson of the Year Male

Winner: Enqi Luo (Tennis)

A 12-year-old tennis enthusiast who has displayed remarkable progress and dedication in the past season.

He started his tennis journey in the 2021/2022 season at Lutheran Tennis Club, where he discovered his passion through Tennis Hot Shot sessions. In the last season, Enqi excelled in junior competitions earning the Most Singles Sets Won trophy and the prestigious May Schubert Perpetual Trophy.

He also had a memorable moment at the Adelaide International 2023, fuelling his ambition for tennis. Enqi's active participation and sportsmanship in various South Australian tournaments highlights his relentless drive for improvement, embodying the spirit worthy of the title Young Sportsperson of the Year.


Young Sportsperson of the Year Female

Winner: Leah Anderson-Morris (Netball)

At just 15 years old, Leah is carving an impressive path in netball. She shines at Rambler Netball Club, playing in the A reserves team while remaining eligible for Juniors.

She plays dual games every Saturday for Contax and Ramblers in Adelaide. Leah's talent took her to the State team, earning her the 'Ann Safe MVP' for South Australia and helping her team secure a silver medal.

Notably, she also earned a spot in the All Australian team. To top it all, Leah has secured her an invitation to play for Junior Australia in the United Kingdom and Paris next year.


Sportsperson of the Year Female

Winners: Megan Knight (Bodybuilding)

A seasoned professional bodybuilder and a fitness expert, Megan has won several victories in prestigious championships, including IFBB South Australian Championships and the Australian Miss Fitness and Muscle Mania, displaying her talent in the physique division. She achieved a remarkable 5th place in the worldwide PNBA professional physique division at the INBA Natural Olympia in Las Vegas.

Megan's dedication and triumphs culminated in her winning the title of MISS UNIVERSE 2023 WFF at the UNIVERSE bodybuilding show in Celaya, Mexico.

The world watches with anticipation as Megan continues to make waves in the competitive bodybuilding arena.

Winner: Janet Smith (Powerlifter)

A tenacious female powerlifter, holding the title of the ‘Strongest female deadlifter in South Australia’.

Despite enduring a traumatic assault and battling significant injuries, she made a triumphant comeback in April 2022. Janet shattered records at the Last Chance Qualifier, securing the Australian CAPO National Record for her age and weight class.

Her remarkable journey exemplifies resilience, proving that age and adversity are no match for her determination and drive in the world of powerlifting.

Janet Smith is a true inspiration, embodying strength and triumph over life's challenges.


Sportsperson of the Year Male

Winner: Andrew Heard (Rifle shooting)

Andrew is an adept rifle shooter with a commendable record of achievements. Recently, he performed exceptionally at the World Fire and Police Games in Winnipeg, Canada. He secured 2 individual gold medals and 2 team silver medals in the Masters division.

Andrew has also been chosen for a tryout with the South Australian team, a testament to his skills and commitment.

He’s a legend at the Murray Bridge Rifle Club, frequently earning top off-rifle shooter distinctions.


Sporting Volunteer of the Year

Winner: Nicky Smith

A netball veteran with an astounding record of 500 Senior games at the River Murray Netball Association, Nicky has etched her name in history.

Her journey began at Jervois Bluds Netball Club, showing promise at just 14. She remained a pillar of strength, playing and coaching across teams.

As a Bluds Junior Coach Development Officer, she imparts wisdom, nurturing young talents who are the future of the club. Nicky's commitment extends beyond the court, dedicating time to the association and various programs.

Her passion for netball and developing young players is unparalleled, making her an asset to the sport and the community.
