Stormwater

The management of stormwater assets in The Rural City of Murray Bridge covers a range of services to the community, including:

Protection of life, property and transport networks from both riverine and local catchment flooding.

Management of water quality, aquatic environmental values and environmental flows

Capture and storage, treatment and reuse of Stormwater as a natural resource for irrigation purposes.

Stormwater basins are designed to temporarily retain or detain stormwater in order to manage peak runoff flows generated during and after significant storm events.

Stormwater basins provide flood protection for downstream urban areas by artificially creating a localized low points available for water storage and shifting flood prone areas away from occupied areas. Stormwater basins and wetlands also provide water quality treatment and landscape amenity.

Retention Basin

Retention Basins are wet areas designed to hold permanent pools of Stormwater.  The basin has its overflow orifice at a higher level so water is permanently retained within the basin.

Council’s retention basins are listed below:

  • Adelaide Road Cemetery Basin
  • Gifford Hill Lagoon
  • Golf Course Basins
  • Greenland Drive Dam
  • Hindmarsh Road Basin
  • Sturt Reserve Basin

Council’s detention basin’s are listed below:

  • Christian Reserve Basin
  • Hawke Place Basin
  • Hill Street Basin
  • Homburg Drive Basin
  • Howard Road Basin
  • Kuchel Park Basin
  • Weigall Avenue Basin
