Recycling Hub - Murray Bridge Library

The Recycling Hub will facilitate the recycling of various items that can be hazardous or particularly impactful in landfills.

The community can visit the Murray Bridge Library and drop off the following items in designated boxes, during library opening hours:

Mobile phones
Batteries
Blister packs
Household cords
Small eWaste
Soft drink bottle lids
Ring pulls
X Rays
Eyewear

Council strongly encourages the community to use the Hub to recycle these items, rather than in general rubbish.

What is eWaste?

Any item that plugs in or uses a battery. It needs to be small enough to be placed safely into the Recycling Hub. Anything larger can be brought to the Brinkley Resource Recovery Centre.

Do the items need to be packaged a certain way?

It is helpful if items are not in bags or packaging. A piece of tape placed on the ends of batteries is also appreciated, as this prevents the batteries from igniting.

What type of bottle lids are accepted?

All plastic bottle lids are acceptable. These are type 2, 4 and 5 plastics that go to the Murray Bridge High School for their recycling program. Large quantities of these plastics can be taken directly to MBHS and dropped off at Gate 4 on Long Island Road. Not all plastics are the same! Many medicine bottles and lids are also Type 2, 4 or 5 plastic.

How often are the resources collected from the Hub?

The Hub will be emptied as frequently as necessary (but at least once per week).

What about Bread Tags?

Bread tags are being discontinued from September 1st in SA: Single-use Plastics are being phased out in South Australia. Find out more. (replacethewaste.sa.gov.au)

Why can’t batteries go into my kerbside bin?

Batteries can’t go in your regular recycling or household rubbish bin. When you throw batteries away, they end up in landfills, where they can cause harmful fires and leach toxic materials into waterways and ecosystems.

You can find out more at bcycle.com.au.

Why can’t X-rays go into my kerbside bin?

X-rays contain metals, including silver and mercury. These can be recovered and reused, reducing the need to extract them from the earth.

Why recycle eWaste?

eWaste contains metals, including silver and copper. These can be recovered and reused, which reduces the need to extract them from the earth. eWaste may also contain batteries. Batteries are removed in the recycling process, preventing them from entering landfills where they can cause harmful fires and leach toxic materials into waterways and ecosystems.

How do I remove my data from my old mobile phone or electronic device?

Information can be found on the Mobile Muster website (Recycle a Mobile—Mobile Muster) and on the manufacturer's website.

What about Can ring pulls?

The Rotary club collects and sells these for their weight, funding other programs. The can is still worth 10c for recycling, so we get two sources of income from it.

What about other items

The Brinkley Reuse Centre can take many donated items for resale and the Brinkley Resource and Recovery Facility takes separated green waste, timber, large and small white and brown goods and other items to keep them from landfill.
