THE RURAL City of Murray Bridge’s latest team of Elected Members has been announced, with Wayne Thorley elected as Mayor for the 2022-26 Council term.

THE RURAL City of Murray Bridge’s latest team of Elected Members has been announced, with Wayne Thorley elected as Mayor for the 2022-26 Council term.

Following a provisional declaration of election on Saturday afternoon, Wayne was declared Mayor and took the Oath of Office on Tuesday 15 November.

Mayor Thorley will be joined by two new Councillors Tom Haig and Lisa Courtney and continuing Councillors Airlie Keen, Andrew Baltensperger, John DeMichele, Fred Toogood, Clem Schubert, Karen Eckermann and Mat O’Brien who were sworn in prior to the new team’s first Council meeting on Monday 21 November, 2022.

Cr Andrew Baltensperger will be Deputy Mayor for the next 12 months.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Sedgman congratulated the Council members who have been elected and looks forward to working with them over the next four years.

“We are heading into interesting and challenging times and the elected members have an important role to play in representing the interests of our residents, businesses and community,” he said.

Mayor Thorley, who has previously served as deputy Mayor, said he had high hopes for what Council can achieve over the coming years. “I am looking forward to the continued growth of the council area and see it prosper offering a place for people and business to maximise opportunities,” he said.

“I want our community to be a place that is liveable, interesting, affordable and a great place to live.”

Mayor Thorley thanked the outgoing Mayor Brenton Lewis. He paid tribute to Mr Lewis for eight years of service to his community as Mayor.

Mayor Thorley said he was excited to see two new passionate local people joining the Council.

“The new consort of councillors will bring fresh ideas, passion and knowledge to the Chamber, which I am confident will be of great benefit to the community,” Mayor Thorley said.
