Have Your Say on the Future of Our Region: Greater Adelaide Regional Plan Now Open for Feedback
The State Planning Commission has released the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan and want to hear from community, councils and industry on how they can sustainably prepare for future growth.
The Plan set outs a long-term vision for Greater Adelaide, detailing where people will live and work, how they will move around and where they will access services. It provides data and recommendations for managing growth and adapting to changes in our community and urban environment.
Additionally, the Plan focuses on the maintenance of green spaces and tree canopies, modernising essential services and infrastructure, recognising neighbourhood character and prioritising environmental sustainability.
For the Rural City of Murray Bridge, it’s an important opportunity to ensure that local priorities and aspirations are reflected in the final Plan.
Key Aspects of the Plan
The Greater Adelaide Regional Plan will guide where housing, employment land and critical infrastructure will be located. It also aims to protect important areas of our region that contribute to our local character and way of life. This includes:
- Balancing new growth with the protection of agricultural lands and scenic areas.
- Planning for infrastructure and services that can support our growing population.
- Ensuring local input is considered in key development decisions for the next 15 to 30 years.
The draft Plan has identified land for approximately 315,000 new homes across the Greater Adelaide region, with a portion of this growth expected to occur in the Murray Bridge area. In addition, it focuses on long-term infrastructure needs to support sustainable development.
Why Your Input Matters
The Plan has been developed with extensive input from key stakeholders, including local councils, community organisations, and First Nations groups. Over 750 submissions were received during the earlier stages of community engagement in 2023, helping shape the draft Plan we see today.
Residents now have the opportunity to provide direct feedback on key elements of the Plan, particularly regarding local priorities such as:
- Protecting agricultural and scenic areas from overdevelopment.
- Supporting local employment and economic growth.
- Ensuring new developments are supported by appropriate infrastructure, including roads, public transport, and utilities.
