Shout NO! To Family and Domestic Violence
Join the Murray Bridge Domestic Violence Awareness Group on Friday 27 November to Shout NO! to family and domestic violence between 11am-1pm.
Violence against women and girls affects one in three women. It is one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide, yet for many survivors, justice remains out of reach.
In parallel, funding cuts are reducing access to critical services and weakening the women’s rights organisations that help survivors navigate justice systems, obtain legal support, and rebuild their lives. For women in rural and remote areas and women and girls facing intersecting forms of discrimination and violence, the path to justice is even more challenging
Shout NO! takes place annually on the last Friday of November as part of the United Nations Women’s 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence from November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and concludes on 10 December – International Human Rights Day. This is a chance for students, local providers and community members to come together and Shout NO! to all forms of domestic, family and sexual violence under the theme: “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls: Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.”
The event takes place at the Place of Courage on Sturt Reserve, with speakers, a march along the river and back and a community BBQ cooked by the Mobilong Rotary Club.
Throughout the 16 days you will also see the Performing Arts + Function Centre light up in orange in support of the 16 Days of Activism. The "Orange the World" campaign encourages buildings to be lit in orange to symbolise a future free of violence against women and girls.
This a joint event led by the Murray Bridge Domestic Violence Awareness Group and supported by the Murray Bridge Regional Collaboration on Violence Against Women and Children, Council and Mobilong Rotary Club.
