Two new major regional projects to boost sports and tourism will go ahead in Murray Bridge, following the announcement of multimillion dollar Federal Government grants.
A regional sports stadium and riverfront wharf renewal will be funded through Round Five of the Building Better Regions Fund to create better facilities, services, create jobs and boost economic opportunity in the region.
An allocation of $1.98million will support the ‘Make Your Move - Murray Bridge Regional Sports Stadium’, to build a new main basketball stadium at Murray Bridge Showgrounds. The multi-use regional sporting hub will boast facilities to accommodate high participation sports.
The History and Tourism precinct at Sturt Reserve will receive an injection of $1.5million for the redevelopment and restoration of the wharves, and surrounding riverfront area. The project will increase safe and accessible landing points for tourism boats to create attractive opportunities for visitors, events and recreation at the riverfront playground.
Council will match funding for the two local projects to build a bright future for the township and ensure a significant impact in the region. The Federal Government Building Better Regions funding announced provides the opportunity for the redevelopment and refurbishment of the Sturt Reserve Wharf Precinct, looking to incorporate Ngarrindjeri and European heritage.
It will also provide the opportunity to roll out the first stage of a new regional stadium for Murray Bridge, including a new main show court, unisex change rooms, clubrooms, an office and reception facilities as the first stage of a longer-term master plan implementation. This will enable the Murray Bridge Basketball Association to expand the facilities available to its members on the current site.
