This exciting initiative is designed to foster inclusivity and accessibility in sport and recreation, helping children with disabilities integrate into local sporting clubs and become more active.
The event will feature two engaging activity sessions at Murray Bridge Showgrounds Oval and Murray Bridge Basketball Stadium, from 10a m – 12pm and 3pm - 5pm. These sessions will include participation from state sporting bodies such as SANFL, SACA, Tennis SA, SA Country Basketball, and Football SA. These organisations will engage primary school-aged children with disabilities, providing them with an opportunity to experience various sports in a supportive environment.
An additional Information Session will be held at the Murray Bridge Basketball Association (MBBA)Clubrooms from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, followed by networking. Presentations will cover topics such as developing and adapting training and game practices for inclusivity (led by SANFL and SACA) and creating an inclusive club environment (presented by Sports4All). A panel discussion featuring a Murraylands elite athlete and representatives from the Berri Blazers will offer valuable insights into fostering inclusivity at all levels of sport. The session will be an ideal resource for local clubs, associations, parents and industry providers.
In addition to the main events, attendees can enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere with supplementary activities such as a quiet zone, a coffee van and a sausage sizzle.
Participation is free, but registration is required. We encourage parents, support workers, and children to attend to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment. Volunteers, including local occupational therapists and service providers, will be on hand to assist throughout the day. To register, please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VD2RPS6.
This event is a crucial step toward promoting inclusivity in sport within the Murraylands community, ensuring all children, regardless of ability, have the opportunity to participate in and enjoy physical activity.
