Reinventing and combining the fireworks spectacular normally held at the Rural City of Murray Bridge’s New Year’s Eve celebration, will instead see the fireworks return as part of a four day event extravaganza full of surprises.
“Murray River Glows’ will include a lighting display accompanied by music on Wharf Hill, and throughout the gardens over Wharf Hill, put together by one of the Rural City of Murray Bridge’s very own locals, Alec of Smartalec Lighting.
Friday's events will be all self-care and wellbeing-related, forming part of the community recovery work being undertaken by the Rural City of Murray Bridge following the recent high river levels. The main event on Friday will be a half-day workshop run by Sophie Thomson, well-known and loved presenter of the ABC TV’s popular Garden Australia program, targeted towards those re-establishing their gardens after the flood. The event to be held in Edwards Square will also feature displays and smaller well-being activities either side of the workshop.
"We're excited to be able to host this event after the disappointment felt having to defer our New Year's Eve celebration," said Mayor Wayne Thorley.
"We've pulled together some great elements, including a fantastic lighting display and a fireworks show on the evening of Saturday June 17, and we hope that the community will come out to enjoy the festivities."
This family friendly event will take place on Wharf Hill opposite the Bridgeport Hotel and will feature food vans, an extensive interactive lighting display around the rose garden by the rotunda on Wharf Hill.
"Murray River Glows: A Celebration of Strength and Unity" is not only a celebration of the resilience and strength of the Murray Bridge community but also an opportunity for people from other regions to come together and enjoy a fantastic event. With an extensive interactive lighting display, music, delicious food vans, and a spectacular fireworks show, this event promises to be a highlight of the 2023 calendar.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, we invite you to join us at Wharf Hill Reserve from June 15-18, 2023, to celebrate with us and experience the spirit of unity that defines our community. For more information, please visit www.murraybridge.sa.gov/glows or contact us directly.
