Murray Bridge Investigates New Employment Land to Support Future Growth
The Rural City of Murray Bridge is progressing plans to investigate new employment land opportunities to support future economic growth, investment and job creation across the region.
Following support from the South Australian Government, Council will lead a Code Amendment process to investigate the rezoning of multiple land areas for strategic employment purposes. The investigations could unlock up to 4,600 hectares of additional employment land to meet growing demand from industry and businesses.
Four areas have been identified for investigation, including land at Pallamana surrounding the existing Thomas Foods International site. The proposed locations have been selected due to their strategic position and proximity to key transport and freight routes.
The initiative builds on Council’s Murray Bridge Structure Plan, which identified the need for additional employment land to support the region’s continued growth. Murray Bridge has also been recognised as a satellite city within the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan, with an additional 19,500 residents expected to live in the region by 2051.
The investigations will assess land suitability, infrastructure requirements and compatibility with surrounding land uses to ensure future development is carefully planned and supports long-term economic outcomes.
The proposed employment areas are strategically located near major transport connections, including the future Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass, creating opportunities for industrial development, logistics and business investment.
As part of the Code Amendment process, Council will engage with landowners, neighbouring properties, industry stakeholders, infrastructure providers, government agencies and the broader community.
Following the completion of technical investigations, the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback through a formal consultation process.
Further updates and engagement opportunities will be provided as the project progresses.
