Murray Bridge Library receives $17,000 grant for environmental and STEM programs

Murray Bridge Library has received $17,000 through the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board’s Grassroots Grants program to deliver a year-round program of environmental, science, literacy and nature-based activities for the community.

The Murray Bridge Library Program 2026 - 2027 will expand to provide children, young people and families with hands-on opportunities to learn about local wildlife, biodiversity, waterways and sustainable environmental management.

Over the next 12 months, the Program will feature a range of activities across school holidays and key community events, including:

  • Animals Anonymous - wildlife education sessions, introducing children to local native species and their habitats
  • A Science Week community event featuring hands-on activities and presentations focused on frogs, wetlands, soil health, invertebrates, native wildlife and citizen science
  • A Book Week storytime with children’s author Katrina Germein, connecting literacy with environmental education through Fabulous Frogs and Wonderful Wasps
  • Spring school holiday nature programs, including biodiversity and threatened species workshops and sensory nature play for babies and toddlers
  • A turtle hatching event during the January school holidays, exploring freshwater turtle conservation, waterway health and local turtle census initiatives
  • A National Families Week event in 2027, featuring an inflatable Murray Cod and Murray River Eco-Maze from Nylon Zoo.

Together, these activities will provide opportunities for the community to connect with local landscapes, native species and waterways while building knowledge about biodiversity and sustainable environmental practices.

The program will also strengthen partnerships between Murray Bridge Library and regional environmental educators, wildlife organisations, authors, scientists, artists and community groups.

The funding supports the Library’s existing program of activities and will help create engaging learning opportunities that promote curiosity, environmental awareness, literacy, lifelong learning and stronger community connections.

Keep an eye on the Murray Bridge Library Facebook page for upcoming program details and event information.

This project is supported by the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board through funding from the landscape levies.
