COUNCIL’S COLLABORATION LEADS TO AWARD WINS FOR EDUCATION, ENERGY PROJECTS
Council received the acknowledgement at the Local Government Professionals Annual Leadership Excellence Awards earlier this month.
The first Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration Award recognises the Murray River and Fleurieu Study Hubs Program – a partnership between the Rural City of Murray Bridge, Alexandrina Council, Berri Barmera Council, City of Victor Harbor, Coorong District Council and the District Council of Yankalilla.
This program has reshaped regional education and brought university access closer to home for over 350 learners so far. It’s addressing local skills gaps, boosting regional economies and lifting tertiary education attainment in areas where less than 10% of people once held degrees.
The second Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration Award recognises the Collaborative Council Power Purchase Agreement. By joining with the City of Charles Sturt and the City of Mitcham, the Rural City of Murray Bridge was part of a sector-first renewable energy procurement project that’s delivering major savings and emissions reductions.
Mayor Wayne Thorley said the projects demonstrated Council’s innovation and commitment to achieving beneficial outcomes for its community by working with others.
