New strategy sets direction for Murray Bridge's economic growth

The Rural City of Murray Bridge has adopted its Economic Development & Growth Strategy 2026-2030, providing a coordinated four-year roadmap to support purposeful growth and build a stronger, more resilient and inclusive local economy.

Adopted on 14 September 2026, the Strategy responds to strong population growth, rising investment and Murray Bridge's strategic position along major road and rail connections. It brings together 51 actions across three focus areas:

  • Progressive Wellbeing - health and housing; education and training; and climate resilience.
  • Activating Infrastructure - residential and employment lands; strategic infrastructure and connectivity; and large-scale investment attraction.
  • Sustainable Growth - tourism and events; business support; and business retention and attraction.

One key move Marketing and Promotion - supports all three focus areas by telling Murray Bridge's story, building local pride and promoting the region to new residents, businesses, investors and visitors.

The Strategy applies a wellbeing economy approach, recognising that successful growth should improve living standards, strengthen social inclusion and support resilient natural and built environments.

Mayor Wayne Thorley said the Strategy would guide Council decision-making, strengthen partnerships and support advocacy to State and Federal Governments.

“Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient and prosperous Murray Bridge - a place where people, businesses and industries can confidently invest, grow and thrive,” Mayor Thorley said.

Implementation begins with foundation-setting work in 2026-27, followed by activation, scaling and consolidation through to 2030. Council will work closely with community, business, industry and government partners, with progress reported quarterly.
