CONGRATULATIONS to the 2022 Rural City of Murray Bridge Christmas Lights Competition Award Winners!

CONGRATULATIONS to the 2022 Rural City of Murray Bridge Christmas Lights Competition Award Winners!

Awards were presented at the Local Government Centre on Wednesday this week for the most outstanding entries in each of the five award categories.

Mayor Wayne Thorley said he was pleased to see members of the community putting in effort to share festive cheer with others, helping to create Connected and Thriving Communities.

“It’s been wonderful to drive around and see the beautiful lights on display throughout our communities, and the many families out viewing at night, sharing in the festive spirit,” he said.

“Sometimes it doesn’t take much to remind us about the spirit of the season, that others care and of the joy to be found in the simple things in life.

“Some locals have put a huge amount of thought and effort into sharing that joy with others by decorating their homes and businesses with the twinkle of Christmas lights, and everyone this year should be proud of their efforts.”

This year’s award winners are:

* Traditional display: Crystal Solley – Robinia Court

* Small Display: Jill and Peter Nelson – Oxford Street

* Large Display: Jiron Blacket – Garden Crescent

* Business Display: Alec Thompson – Finch Road

* Mayor’s Award (highest overall score): Des and Mim Warner – Robinia Court

Des and Mim did get the highest score for the traditional display, but as the category winners last year, the competition terms and conditions state the same entrants cannot win two years in a row.

Entries were judged on:

- Presentation, general appearance layout and design

- Light – use of colour, form and composition, variety and repetition

- Creativity, innovation and passion

- Does it reflect the spirit of the Christmas season?
