New funding to support age-friendly Murray Bridge

The Rural City of Murray Bridge has received $50,000 through the South Australian Government’s Age Friendly SA Grants program to develop its first Active Ageing Strategy.

The strategy will help shape future services, programs and infrastructure to support older residents to remain active, connected and engaged in community life as Murray Bridge continues to grow.

Guided by the World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Cities Framework, the strategy will establish Council’s role in promoting positive ageing and provide a roadmap for future age-friendly initiatives across the district.

The strategy will also build on Council’s recently adopted Community Wellbeing Strategy, helping ensure the needs, experiences and contributions of older community members are considered in future planning.

Age Friendly SA Grants support initiatives that help create more inclusive, accessible and age-friendly communities, aligned with the priorities of the Age Friendly SA Strategy.

The funding is part of more than $186,000 awarded to five South Australian councils. Other funded projects include an Ageing Well Expo in the Flinders Ranges, development of an Ageing Well Strategy for the City of Charles Sturt, creative arts and cultural activities in Loxton Waikerie, and an adaptive gardening program at Onkaparinga’s Elizabeth House Positive Ageing Centre.

The Murray region has also benefited from previous Ageing Well funding, including $50,000 to promote Advance Care Directives between 2023 and 2025, $50,000 for Murray Bridge Community Centre’s Social Seniors program in February 2026, and almost $5,000 for the Murray Bridge Croquet Association to purchase age-friendly equipment through the 2023–24 grant round.

Council will work with local organisations, service providers, subject matter experts and the community to help develop the Active Ageing Strategy and identify opportunities to support people to age well in Murray Bridge.
