Do you know someone who is making a difference in our community?

The Rural City of Murray Bridge is calling on residents to help recognise the local heroes, volunteers, leaders and community champions who make our region a better place by nominating them for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards.

Presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and administered by local councils, the awards celebrate individuals and organisations whose dedication, service and community spirit have made a meaningful impact in areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, the arts, the environment and many other fields that contribute to community wellbeing.

The 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards encompasses four categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Award for Active Citizenship

Mayor Wayne Thorley encouraged community members to take the opportunity to acknowledge those who go above and beyond for others.

“Murray Bridge is fortunate to have so many individuals whose commitment and community spirit help make our region a better place to live,” Mayor Thorley said.

“The Citizen of the Year Awards give us the opportunity to recognise those individuals and organisations and celebrate the contributions that strengthen our community and improve the lives of others.”

Nominations for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards close on 20 November 2026.

Award recipients will be announced as part of the Rural City of Murray Bridge's Australia Day celebrations in January 2027 and will also be eligible for consideration in the South Australian Citizen of the Year Awards.
