The Riverfront Redevelopment is the result of extensive research, public engagement and planning. For years our community has dreamed of a vibrant riverfront and now, in partnership with Federal and the State Governments, the Rural City of Murray Bridge is in a position to put its vision into action. That vision is detailed in the Sturt Reserve Master Plan Design Development that provides a roadmap for where and how we work to revitalize our riverfront. It envisions a riverfront with something for everyone –one that balances recreation, nature and development.

Implementing this roadmap will take years, and no one knows exactly what the final result will look like.  But we do know that the riverfront will be a catalyst for investment and will offer yet another reason for people to live, work and play in the heart of our community, bring us close to nature and connect us to our history and benefit generations to come.

The Plan provides a program of work packages delivering precincts within precincts using the following guiding principles:

  1. Improve access and build connections
Develop an integrated network of linkages both within the reserve and the broader context
  2. A hub for community activities
Locate complementary community activities to draw the town centre to the reserve and the river
  3. Focus recreational  activities around river ‘zones’
Define areas of recreation nodes along the river’s edge
  4. Balance recreational  and environmental values
    Deliver best practice environmental outcomes
  5. Engagement with Ngarrindjeri
Recognise and engage with Ngarrindjeri to embed past, present and future stories of place within the development masterplan
