Swanport Road Master Plan

Swanport Road is one of four main entries in to Murray Bridge. Upgrades and enhancements are currently in progress to Adelaide Road.

The Swanport Road Master Plan identified a new landscape character for the entry and overall streetscape. The design will enhance the local character of the area and provide a landscape that is contextual and engaging. Improved pedestrian amenity as well as greater streetscape changes will provide for local residents as well as visitors to the town.

Stage 1 Works:

The following items are now complete:

  • Kerbing on both sides of the road to match existing between Goulburn St & the Freeway Interchange – complete.
  • Sealing of Swanport Rd to match new kerbing – complete.
  • Kerb realignment at Ibis St – complete.
  • Traffic island installation at Ibis St – complete.
  • Installation of water service for provision of irrigation – complete.
  • Landscaping between Swanport Village Rd and the Freeway Interchange (this forms part of the ‘Drought Communities Program’ funding) - complete
  • Road under bores for irrigation on western side of Jervois Rd & freeway embankments – complete.
  • Earth works on eastern side of Jervois Rd (adjacent SA Water building) – complete.
  • Remaining landscaping of site & freeway embankments due for completion by - complete.

Stage 2 Works:

The following items are now complete:

  • Installation of two (2) stormwater pipes across Swanport Road either side of Darling Avenue – complete.
  • Landscaping between Owl Dve & Ibis Road (Section A) – complete.

Stage 3 Works:

The following items are now complete:

  • Continuation of landscaping (Section B, Ibis Rd – Freeway Interchange) - complete.
  • New street lighting to accommodate a proposed new pedestrian refuge between Ibis Rd & Irena Crt – complete.

Stage 4 Works:

  • Shared path/walking trail between SA Water site and Freeway Interchanges – consultant currently finalising design options to incorporate the freeway underpass;
  • Public Art – currently finalising the approval of the preferred artist with a view to construct during early 2022.
  • New pedestrian refuge and associated pram ramps – commenced 22 November and due for completion 30 November 2021.

Recycled Water Pipeline:

  • Council are about to award a contract for the installation of a recycled water pipeline that will irrigate all existing and future landscaping works along Swanport Road.  Works proposed to commenced early 2022.
