Murray Bridge Fishing

Fishing on the Murray

Get out doors with you family and friends, relax and while away the hours by dropping a line at one of the many locations along our riverbanks or wetlands. There are a number of fishing spots where you can catch Callop, Redfin, yabbies and European Carp.

There a great boat launching facilities for those that want to explore the river from a different vantage point and find their own special fishing spot.

If the big one doesn’t get away fry it up on one of the free barbecues dotted along our beautiful riverfront reserves.

Fishing Tips

Please remember that European Carp are considered a pest species in Australia and highly prevalent in the River Murray. If you catch one, do not return it to the water. It must be destroyed and disposed of….. they can be used as yabby bait.

The 'catch and release' of Murray Cod is permitted from 1 January to 31 July annually.

Once caught, the fish:

  • must not be taken out of the water
  • handled gently
  • be unhooked with care and released immediately.

From 1 August to 31 December fishers are not to target Murray Cod.
