FAQs
Why do we have new bins?
Bins have a lifespan of 10 years. The current fleet of bins in the Rural City of Murray Bridge is over 15 years old. While some bins remain in good condition, many others require significant maintenance. Even if your bins seem fine, replacing all bins, including any additional bins, at the same time is the most efficient way to ensure that all households have durable bins for the next decade.
What will happen to my old bins?
All old bins will be taken away and recycled, reducing waste and environmental impact.
Where and when do I leave my old bins to be collected?
Please place your old bins out on your regular collection day in the regular place you leave your bins for weekly collection. Your old bins will be collected once they are emptied, 1-2 days after your regular collection day. There may be some exceptions to this. Please leave your old bins on the kerbside until they are collected!
Will businesses receive new bins, or is this for residents only?
All bins within the Council area will be swapped over, including businesses.
Can I keep my old bins?
No, old bins will need to be collected for recycling and are not able to be kept by residents. The removal of the old bins form part of the Councils Contract.
Will there be any extra costs due to the changeover?
Residents will not face additional costs, as the replacement bins are included in Council’s contract with Solo Resource Recovery.
Why do we now have a red bin for landfill waste?
The Rural City of Murray Bridge is upgrading all kerbside bins across the community, ensuring they are in line with National sizes and colours.
Will there be any changes to my bin collection schedule?
No, all bin collection schedules will remain the same. For more information view the Kerbside Bin Collection Calendar here. A copy was provided at the back of the ‘Household Waste and Recycling Guide’ provided with your new bins.
Are all my bins being replaced, or just the blue-lid bin?
All bins will be replaced, including additional bins registered with Council and the blue lidded landfill bin will be replaced by a new red lidded bin.
When will my new bins be delivered?
We plan to deliver your new bins 1-4 days prior to your regular collection day and pick up your old bins 1-2 days after your regular collection day. There may be some exceptions to this.
For example:
- Monday 5 May: New bin delivery to Wednesday collection day residents and businesses.

Can I decorate or paint my new bin?
