FAQs

Where and when do I leave my old bins to be collected?

Once you have received your new bins, please place your old bins out as per the usual collection calendar.

Upon receiving your new bins,  your old bins will be collected once they are emptied. Please leave your old bins on the kerbside until they are collected!

Why do we have new bins?

Bins have a lifespan of 10 years. The current fleet of bins in the Rural City of Murray Bridge is over 15 years old. While some bins remain in good condition, many others require significant maintenance. Even if your bins seem fine, replacing all bins, including any additional bins, at the same time is the most efficient way to ensure that all households have durable bins for the next decade.

What will happen to my old bins?

All old bins will be taken away and recycled, reducing waste and environmental impact.

Do I put ALL my bins out?

You only put your old bins out, once you have received your new bins. Please put  out the bins according to your usual collection calendar. For more information, follow the collection calendar below.

Going away for a few weeks? Will I get my new bins?

We recommend asking your neighbour to help you bring your new bins in (off the street) and store them in a safe place.

Upon your return, please contact Council to arrange a date for you to drop your old bins to be recycled.

Will businesses receive new bins, or is this for residents only?

Will there be any extra costs due to the changeover?

Why do we now have a red bin for landfill waste?

The Rural City of Murray Bridge is upgrading all kerbside bins across the community, ensuring they are in line with National sizes and colours.

No, all bin collection schedules will remain the same. For more information view the Kerbside Bin Collection Calendar here. A copy was provided at the back of the ‘Household Waste and Recycling Guide’ provided with your new bins.

Are all my bins being replaced, or just the blue-lid bin?

All bins registered with Council will be replaced, including additional bins registered with Council and the blue lidded general waste bin will be replaced by a new red lidded bin.

When will my new bins be delivered?
