Citizenship Ceremonies

The Rural City of Murray Bridge hosts Citizenship Ceremonies for persons achieving citizenship status approved by the Department of Home Affairs.

Becoming an Australian citizen is something to celebrate. Citizenship ceremonies mark this important milestone in the lives of new citizens; it is where you make the Australian citizenship pledge and the final step in the journey to becoming an Australian.

About the Ceremony

Citizenship Ceremonies are a formal occasion which are conducted by the Presiding Officer appointed by the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs (usually the Mayor). Citizenship Ceremonies take approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour dependent on the number of candidates participating.

During the Ceremony candidates are asked by the Presiding Officer to make the Pledge of Commitment. This Pledge needs to be recited in the English Language in order to receive your Australian Citizenship. Pledge Cards are provided to you at the Ceremony.

Children under 16 are not required to recite the Pledge of Commitment, however they will receive their own certificate.

You are more than welcome to bring family and friends to witness your Citizenship Pledge. Other invited guests include Members of Parliament, Elected Members and other special guests including our local media the Murray Valley Standard.
