Mallee Routes: Photographing the Mallee

Beautiful and powerful views of the magnificent Mallee regions are the centre point of the next exhibition at Murray Bridge Regional Gallery.

Mallee Routes is an ongoing, collective project that explores the South Australian and Victorian Mallee landscapes.

Five photo-based artists look at how photography offers insights into the ways that we perceive and understand the Mallee’s history and culture.

Gallery Director Fulvia Mantelli said:  “In our current global era of rapid-fire digital photography as a commodity, it’s timely that these artists focus on the often unnoticed aspects of these grand vistas and their quiet nooks”.

Mallee Routes presents works that are rooted in the realist landscape tradition.

Over recent years, each of the photographers has travelled the highways of modernity, pulling up to the road sides to capture those everyday rural scenes.

These photographic works draw attention to the neglected, the rundown and the idea of the unseen.

The project also has a historical perspective that connects with the idea of mythic landscapes.

This exhibition is on display at Murray Bridge Regional Gallery from 7 December 2019 to 12 January 2020.
