Mayor Brenton Lewis said many extraordinary people in the community give their own time to ensure local sporting clubs thrive, fun and inclusive events happen, the economy prospers or just ensure that assistance is there when it is needed.

“Our Australia Day Awards are about recognising and celebrating members of our community who go above and beyond to improve our lifestyle here in the Rural City of Murray Bridge, to ensure our community is proud, safe and progressive.” Mayor Lewis said.

“We need to acknowledge these special people and show our thanks, to inspire others to continue building on the work already being carried out by those who make a difference.

“Without community volunteers we wouldn’t have local CFS, a Visitor Information Centre, sport and recreation clubs, business and industry groups, or fundraising and special events - to name a few.

“I urge you to take the time and submit a nomination for someone you believe is deserving of an accolade.  This could be a friend, workmate, someone at your sports club or community association or someone you know doing great work serving the community.”

The 2019 Rural City of Murray Bridge Australia Day Award nomination categories are:

  • Community Initiative of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Sports Person of the Year
  • Young Sports Person of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year

Nominations close Friday 16 November 2018.
