2016 South Australia Shandong Mission

-          墨里桥乡村市政府 – Rural City of Murray Bridge Opportunities

The 2016 South Australian Shandong Mission was held over 5 days, visiting five 3rd and 4th tier cities including

  • Ji’nan - political capital; large sub-provincial and coastal city
  • Zibo -centre of Shandong, important transport hub,
  • Qingdao -commercial capital, a major seaport, naval base and industrial centre,
  • Linyi - predominant fruit and vegetable industry and abundance in mineral resources,
  • Yantai - International Vine and Wine City,

 This Mission was the largest led by the Premier with 300 delegates, approximately 110 were from business and over 50 represented Local Government.

  • Positively building on work achieved by outbound mission in May 2015 and inbound Mission in September 2015 including visits to local businesses and China Business Migration Exploratory Visit to Adelaide - 27 November 2015


  • Development of business contacts and distribution of our bilingual Regional and Council profiles including official and personal WeChat contact details for ongoing conversations, allowing for effective participation in a competitive market where we positively showcased our Region.


  • Valuable promotional support to the  Murraylands and Riverland businesses who are profiled on the SASD website providing trade and investment opportunities to 1000 Chinese businesses 


  • Establishment of connections allowing verbal invitations to visit our Region including one to the Shandong Tourism Bureau as a value add to building capacity within our Region to develop international trade opportunities.


  • Importance of Local Government and Business working collaboratively with a regional approach to have impact.


  • Encouraged by keen interest in premium food, wine and Eco-tourism and commencement of a long term journey to establish friendly Shandong City relations.


  • Inbound delegation in September 2016 – opportunities to extend invitations to explore our Regions

The Economic Development Vision for the Rural City of Murray Bridge is to be the focus of South Australia’s regional economic growth over the next 20 years, to deliver opportunity, resilience and a wonderful lifestyle that attracts and retains skilled and innovating people and businesses.    The vision will be delivered through focusing on three themes:

  • A desirable place to live, work, invest and visit
  • A progressive, productive community
