The Murraylands Community Men’s shed is an incorporated not for profit organisation, registered as a Health Promotion Charity.
The group's aim is to provide a suitable venue to engage men of all ages, youth, indigenous, veterans and other groups in the Murraylands district to share, disseminate and preserve skills, abilities and other interests that benefit themselves and the community. The group will assist men and women to be sociable and share each other's company whilst feeling productive. The group will encourage men to learn new skills and one old ones, using good tools on interesting and productive projects. It will be a place of peace and friendship where men can pursue and share hobbies, pastimes and interests to contribute to the community through special projects.
The shed had been built at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds with funding and land provided vy the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council.
Membership is set at $30 per year plus a $2 door payment when attending the shed.
The group will be participating in a range of community projects to raise funds, but members can choose to do whatever they wish.
Initially a lot of working bees will be organised to fit out the shed, set up the garden project and other tasks. Founder members will therefore have hands on participation in how the shed will look and operate in the future. Doing thins this way will instil a feeling of ownership to all those who help out.
The shed will enter into partnerships will health providers. The main aim of this is to have people referred for membership who may need companionship or simply need somewhere to go to learn skills or participate in worthwhile projects.
We want to provide a place of peace and fulfillment for all those who join. The very first priority will be to have a comfortable meeting room to sit down, have a coffee and chat and get to know each other. his is the priority of most Men's Sheds around Australia.
The Men's Shed movement is growing on a daily basis. At last count there were approximately 800 sheds around Australia with more than 60, 000 members.
