This course is available to both high school students and adults and will be delivered one day a week for a full year in the Unity College Trade Skills Centre by TAFE SA.  Students will also visit the Murray Bridge TAFE SA Engineering workshop for excursions to utilize their equipment.

It is an entrance level qualification for fabrication, fitting and machining.  The course will give students the skills to complete a range of projects which could include tool boxes, clamps, hammers, drill stands and hacksaws.  The projects will be negotiated with the lecturer.

Course will be run one day per week over a full year starting on 31 January 2018.

Keyboarding Speed and Accuracy – Skills Testing

The Keyboarding Speed and Accuracy Skills Test measures the keyboarding speed and accuracy of a user.

Our Keyboarding Speed and Accuracy Skills Test meets the Australian Standard AS2708-2001 for keyboarding speed and accuracy and is accepted by the SA Police Department and others.

To achieve the most out of the Skills Testing, it is recommended that participants are familiar with correct keyboarding techniques

Child Safe Environments

Anyone working with or providing services for children in SA is a mandated notifier. This course provides information pertaining to Section 11 of the Children's Protection Act 1993 and the associated obligations as a mandated notifier.

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to learn about the signs of possible child abuse and neglect and to find out what could be done to support children and families.

Recognise and Respond to Crisis Situations

This course run over two consecutive days will provide participants with fundamental knowledge around mental health conditions and how to effectively respond as a 'mental health first aider' when dealing with mental illness and associated disability.

The training will provide participants with knowledge and skill around Mental Health First Aid – an internationally accredited training course. 

After two days participants will have gained increased confidence in providing best practice responses, in dealing with a range of presentations across multiple contexts.

You will be expected to complete reading prior to attending the workshop.

By attending and completing the relevant assessments successfully over the two days you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the Recognise and respond to critical situations (CHCCCS019) unit of competency and a Mental Health First Aid Certificate.

 Provide First Aid

Provide First Aid [formerly Apply First Aid or Senior First Aid] is a comprehensive first aid course suitable for everyday emergency situations. This qualification meets the requirement, set out in the Code of Practice, for a Senior First Aider. It incorporates HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation [CPR] & HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support. 

A First aid qualification should be renewed every three [3] years, however, the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) www.resus.org.au recommends the CPR unit is re-certified annually.

 Intermediate Excel 2016

The skills and knowledge acquired in the Intermediate Excel course will enable users to expand their knowledge of Excel and learn how to create more productive workbooks. It covers formulas and function techniques, advanced formatting and charting features and data manipulation tools.

The course assumes the learner has the knowledge required to create, edit, print and chart simple worksheets. Understanding ranges and copying is also important. It would also be beneficial to have a general understanding of personal computers and the Windows operating system environment.

Return to Work Coordinator Training

Businesses who employ more than 30 workers for three or more months are required to appoint a certified return to work coordinator who has completed a training course approved by ReturnToWorkSA. This training provides participants with an understanding of the role, functions and responsibilities of a return to work coordinator.

A certificate is issued upon successful completion of the training. There is no requirement for certified RTW Coordinators who have previously completed an approved course to undertake a ‘refresher’ course.
